Skills Test Locations
Ohio's skills test happens at a genuinely different type of facility than the knowledge test. Dedicated CDL/Skills Testing Locations, separate from Deputy Registrar offices, are specifically equipped to administer the driving skills portion of CDL testing.
The Modernized Skills Test
Ohio's current CDL skills test was developed in direct partnership with the FMCSA and the American Association of Motor Vehicle Administrators (AAMVA). Based on positive safety data from AAMVA's extensive vetting process, the Ohio BMV adopted this modernized format, which tests applicants' knowledge of modern vehicle features while still focusing on the key skills needed to safely operate a commercial vehicle.

Regardless of which CDL Skills Testing Location you use, you must bring your own registered, road-ready vehicle appropriate for the class of CDL you're seeking. Neither the BMV nor CDL Skills Testing Locations provide a vehicle for your test.
